Concrete Reception desk
Trafalgar Square is an extremely well preserved example of Victorian commercial architecture refurbishment.
Concrete by Design were contracted to consult and construct a reception desk that would form the focal point for Rodgers Reidy clients as they enter its Sydney CBD based office.
Custom engineered brackets were designed to mount the cantilevered desk to the existing brick arch column and floating timber floor that had to consider heritage restrictions on the building.
The bench top was pre tensioned in such a way that on removing formwork the bench returned to a level state accommodating for the weight and length of the cantilever section.
All concrete was carried up to the second level by hand, due to strict access restrictions on the site.
Overall the finished product blends old and new seamlessly. The warm timber floors, heritage exposed brick and unique finish only polished concrete can achieve all work in a symphony to give a industrial new age feel without overpowering the significant history and charm associated with this old industrial warehouse.
